The commercial agreement between the two airlines was signed during the IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM), currently taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Tickets will go on sale in July for travel beginning December 17, 2026. Connections will be provided with four flights per week.

The new partnership strengthens connectivity between destinations served by TAROM—both in Romania (Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Oradea, Baia Mare, Suceava, Timișoara) and in Europe (Belgrade, Budapest, Chișinău, Sofia)—and those served by Etihad Airways, via the Bucharest and Abu Dhabi hubs.
The announcement of the partnership coincides with the launch of the direct route to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, a spectacular city home to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, as well as many world-class cultural institutions: Louvre Abu Dhabi, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, the long-awaited contemporary art museum, scheduled to open later this year, Natural History Museum, recently opened and representing the largest natural history institution in the Middle East, covering the history of the universe and Earth over a period of more than 13.8 billion years and focusing particularly on the natural history of the Arabian Peninsula, as well as the iconic interfaith complex Abrahamic Family House, located on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, which brings together a mosque, a church, and a synagogue in a single destination.

From the capital of the United Arab Emirates, passengers can continue their journey with the Etihad network to top destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia.
The codeshare agreement means a simpler and more efficient travel experience, offering a wide range of benefits: a single ticket for the entire itinerary; check-in through to the final destination; automatic baggage transfer; and coordinated connections via the Abu Dhabi hub.
“The signing of the codeshare agreement with Etihad Airways marks an important step in strengthening TAROM’s role in connecting Romania to major international air transport networks. For our passengers, this partnership means easier access to intercontinental destinations and a travel experience built around predictability, comfort, and continuity throughout the entire itinerary. “We continue to develop relevant commercial partnerships that better connect Romania to globally significant markets, cities, and regions that support the development of economic and cultural relations,” said Bogdan Costaș, CEO of TAROM.

The partnership between TAROM and Etihad Airways responds to the growing interest in travel to Asia and the Middle East and offers an efficient alternative for connections between Romania and Australia. At the same time, the agreement supports the development of economic and tourism ties between Romania and international markets.
