Editorii BBC Culture au decis să comande un sondaj în rândul criticilor pentru a determina cele mai bune 100 de filme ale secolului al XXI-lea.
Obiectivul celor de la BBC a fost să demonstreze că în cei 16 ani din acest secol există filme care vor rezista testului timpului.
Au fost întrebați 177 de critici de film, academicieni și curatori de cinema, reviste, ziare de specialitate, din întreaga lume de pe toate continentele, cu excepția Antarcticii.
În topul celor mai bune filme ale secolului 21, primul loc este ocupat de lungmetrajul regizat de David Lynch, „Mulholland Drive”. Îi urmează „In the mood for love” și „There will be blood”.
În topul realizat de BBC Culture este nominalizat și filmul lui Cristian Mungiu „4 luni, 3 săptămâni și 2 zile”. Filmul lui Mungiu ocupă locul al XV-lea în clasament.
