Let the fairytale start … with Andreea Belba and Cosmina Stan

They have an impressive résumé, a brilliant education, a life like in movies, and are incredibly ravishing. Andreea Belba and Cosmina Stan live in London and dream of writing history with their art and event consultancy company.

They smile

“Let the fairytale start …” was Cosmina writing a few years ago on her Facebook page just before moving to London. And the fairytale obeyed tamely and off it reeled both for Cosmina and for Andreea, her girlfriend and partner.

Turning over one life page, here they are at the inauguration of Bartoux Galleries, fully in charge of the event management and media relationships with over 500 VIP collectors invited, or at London’s art auction dinner, “Save the Children” to raise funds for the Syrian refugees, an event with over 300 elite guests – including the Royal Families of Belgium and Saudi Arabia.

Turn another page, and see them radiate at Hotel de Crillon in Paris within the art exhibition organized right in Marie-Antoinette’s Suite – where she used to take piano lessons – with artists like Richard Orlinski, Cyril Kongo and JonOne.

There’s one more. They smile in front of an inestimable painting or sculpture later sold at Art Basel Miami or dance beside the great jeweler Fawaz Gruosi, the owner of De Grisogono at his famous annual party at hotel Cala Di Volpe in Sardinia. It has become the most eagerly awaited summer event on the Emerald Coast where the creator’s close friends, such as Tina Turner, Denzel Washington, Mike Tyson, Lenny Kravitz, Anne Hathaway, Kevin Spacey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Natalie Portman or Adrien Brody have been invited over the years.

In summer time, they join the Serpentine Gallery Party, a highlight of London’s social calendar that attracts celebrities from fashion, music, film, design and art. Last year, for example, the party was hosted by Chanel. Claudia Schiffer, Rita Ora, Arizona Muse and Ellie Bamber were all wearing creations of the famous fashion house, and Princess Eugenia, Eva Herzigová or Brooklyn Beckham were among the guests.

The next day, they are in New York with a new and completely special mission: one of their loyal customers, an Asian collector in New York, wants to acquire one of the most impressive collections of paintings signed by Banksy. Andreea and Cosmina will take care of everything, from consultancy to delivery.

Royal Families

Let the fairy tale go on… They have just returned from the Royal Opera Gala – Handel’s show Rodelinda, Queen of Longobardi dedicated to a small group of exceptional guests at Château de Chimay in Belgium, honoring invitation of the Belgian Royal Family whom they advised upon the purchase of installations and sculptures from a public park in Belgium,

or offering consultancy services to the Saudi Royal Family for the acquisition of 13 paintings of emerging artists they have purchased later.

For the Royal Family in Kuwait they had another special mission – to embellish a 55-meter yacht that was customized with the paintings of a well-known American artist.

For the Royal Family in Dubai, something special was prepared: at their initiative, Liviu Mihai, a young talented Romanian artist created thirteen polo inspired artworks for the Julius Baer Polo Cup in Dubai.

A FAIRY TALE WITH REAL GIRLS

But who are actually these girls who feel at home in London, Paris, Dubai, Monte Carlo, or New York, in the world’s finest restaurants, at royal or charity galas, with distinguished guests on the most spectacular yachts, at the most exhilarating parties, in London’s most selective private clubs, or in breathtaking sumptuous residences?

How comes they have such a global network of artists, galleries and dealers? A network of over 2,000 clients whose lives they embellished either with an impressive collection, a painting or a sculpture. Or perhaps with an event organized in the most exclusive locations of the social elite or, perhaps, for artists, guaranteeing access to elite collectors around the world, including royal families as well.

Andreea is 28 years old. She is passionate about art, and good at discovering young exceptional artists and identifying good investment opportunities for her clients, both among modern and contemporary artists. She published his first book at the age of 21 and dreams of writing soon the next one.

She helped companies such as Ayyam, VistaJet or CCercle develop and deepen customer relationships, being now fully committed to every client of the company to tailor to his personality and individual needs.

Her Instagram page takes you to art exhibitions, to Christie’s courses she is now attending, to super exclusive events, in the bosom of her family or in paradise locations shaping a complex, esoteric and enchanting person from all points of view.

Her phone is ringing. “Excuse me, it’s …” and she utters a celebrity’s name to whom she responds relaxed. She returns to table and relates condescendingly the humorous conversation she previously had with another sports celebrity interested in art investments.

“In spite of a super VIP status, considering celebrities normal people ensures our success,” she concludes.

Cosmina, also 28 years old, is passionate about organizing events. “Exclusive,” “glamorous,” “exciting,” “unique,” are the adjectives connected to any event they decide to organize. The location, the guest list, the press relations, the menu are carefully analyzed because they will make the difference. And every event must come out impeccably. Both her experience and academic training will be her guarantors.

She is charming, diplomatic, adopts endless patience with each client, becomes immediately very agreeable, has got a sweet smile and is extremely humorous. She may seem a little ethereal as relaxed as a movie star – forgetting the credit card PINs, missing flights, “even private ones”, she self-ridicules – but she totally changes when talking about the organization of an event. Then she suddenly becomes serious grasping details that others have not even thought of and telling at a glance whether an event reaches or not the standards of feasibility their customers have become accustomed to.

STILL…. UNFULFILLED DREAMS

I was curious to find out what lies on their wish list. Recently back from her vacation in Dubai, where she had practiced skydiving, Andreea was dreaming of reiterating this experience, but under Jesus’s hand in Rio, dancing tango in Argentina, climbing Mount Bhutan and Kilimanjaro … and selling one of Gustav Klimt’s paintings.

Cosmina stressed that she wanted to sell a painting by Picasso, “not a sketch, but a consecrated painting,” to attend a sommelier course, to drink ayahuasca in a shamanic ritual in Peru, and to fly small airplanes soon. They both wish to organize upcoming events for the Royal House of England and as many charity events as possible.

ROMANIA WITH GOOD AND BAD

I further asked them about Romania. They cannot imagine themselves back, at least not soon. Andreea, for example, misses the long summer days with bright and magic evenings, the first snowfall in her childhood street, or that unique touch of her mother muffling up her back in a blanket while sleeping.

And she equally longs for her father’s playing the guitar late at night by the light of the fireplace. Cosmina yearns after her family, the first snowflakes, Christmas and the way they celebrated it at Izvorani with family friends.

Both of them are grateful to Romania: Andreea for having been educated to feel passion for so many things that enrich her life, and Cosmina for having been brought up as a happy child, for education, and for culture. And, of course, Cosmina would like her children to get accustomed with the country’s traditions because Romania has so much to offer.

They confessed to me that Romanians’ biggest default is their wickedness with one another, despite their kindness towards foreigners. Romanians seem evil and selfish, not helpful like the Jews, or ambitious to become better by nurturing their success from others’ stories like the Americans.

DELIRIUM IN ART

We had a longer talk about the art world. When asked whether the exorbitant prices an artist cashes in today are justifiable or it is just an economic bubble, a trend, they answered that the exclusive art market is extremely manipulative; for example, a gallery exposing an artist’s works will constantly bid to get higher quotes, which do not justify exorbitant prices.

When asked to analyze the “Ghenie phenomenon”, who sells a picture of 4 million Euros today, which is not actually his money but others’, they admitted that although Ghenie is an extremely talented painter that no one can deny, they believe the market is exaggerated and, as mentioned above, manipulated by those who are selling his works. They specified that world is witnessing an impressive marketing strategy, in a perfect symbiosis. It may take years for someone to buy a Ghenie painting, and needs to join a waiting list with hundreds of collectors ahead.

When asked about art trade, they replied that art market is delusional because galleries impose and manipulate prices beyond the legal limits, making fabulous amounts out of contemporary art. The art market should impose certain regulations to make prices accessible and create safety for artists.

I wanted to find out what is their favorite museum and they answered that any museum is a bridge between past and present and, therefore, a choice would be difficult. They mentioned, however, the Metropolitan Art Museum with its impressive collections of paintings, sculptures, architecture, graphics, pottery, textiles, musical instruments, American arts and crafts, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, specialized in contemporary art with valuable art galleries that invite you to meditation, reconsidering history.

THE BEST INVESTMENT

I asked them to what extent school contributed, Sotheby’s, for example. What happens after graduating such courses – does school help you find jobs, clients, cooperation? They answered that education is vital in any field. Andreea said that her studies at Sotheby’s, followed by Art Business courses, were the best personal investment. School, in her case, meant expanding the contact network, interacting with people from all corners of the world she kept in touch with. There are partnerships in sales with colleagues from the art institutions attended, but school in itself does not propel graduates into a job. Of course, it’s easier to be accepted as a trainee at Sotheby’s or Christie’s if you studied at their art institute. Cosmina states that school was essential for the theoretical part, for the planning and execution of any event, but also for branding and sponsorship.
